FreshRN Med-Surg Nurse Practice Framework

I’m a RN with bedside experience across cardiac med-surg, stepdown, and neuro ICU, and a Master’s degree in Nursing Education. I have been a bedside nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor. I’m also the founder of FreshRN, an education company that has supported thousands of nurses since 2015.

This course is built directly from that experience, not theory or recycled NCLEX content. The original version of this program, published in 2020, was developed alongside two nationally certified medical-surgical nurses, and it has since been refined based on real feedback from hundreds of new grads navigating med-surg units in the real world.

I created the resource I wish I had when I started in 2010, something that makes the expectations of med-surg visible, structured, and manageable instead of vague and overwhelming.

Does this program come with contact hours?
No, it does not. We chose not to grant contact hours to keep the course cost low for new graduate nurses.
What if I don't like the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy with your purchase! Simply email us at contact@freshrn.com and let us know. To qualify for a refund, less than 50% of the course must be completed, and the refund must be requested AND issued within 14 days of the original purchase. Please allow 1-2 business days for processing refunds.
Do I need to watch everything in order?
No. While the framework builds logically, you can jump to the areas most relevant to what you’re experiencing during orientation.
Are there any limits in logins or or video watches?
No, once you purchase you have lifetime access and can watch videos as many times as you'd like. There is no limit.

Can nursing students or experienced nurses enroll?
While this is designed for new med-surg nurses, there are no limits on who can enroll. Students may find the content helpful in preparing for clinical rotations on med-surg units, but it will not provide any NCLEX-prep material. Experienced RNs are welcome to enroll and may find the content helpful in refining their shift management.
Will this make orientation easy?
Orientation will still be challenging. This program won’t remove the learning curve, but it will help you navigate it with more clarity, structure, and confidence.
Is this replacing my hospital’s training?
No. This program is meant to support and enhance your orientation, not replace employer training or policies.
I'm in a med-surg specialty. Will this work?
If you're working in med-surg/tele, med-surg/ortho, med-surg/cardiac, med-surg/stroke, this course will help. While we don't go into speciality specifics like cardiac, ortho, or neuro in detail, the overall framework for orientation, growth, time management, prioritization, and more is applicable. We have specialty courses available; however, I highly recommend establishing a strong med-surg foundation before those specialized courses.
